Re: Google Apps in Schools

I found this discussion very interesting because there is a bias expressed =
=0Aagainst Google when their systems appear to have worked. The person was=
=0Aidentified and terminated. If anything this makes me trust them more. =
Put this =0Ain stark contrast to FaceBook, who despite their public profes=
sions have a CEO =0Awho has admitted (in writing) to accessing data in the =
same way =0A(http://www.boingboing.net/2010/09/14/damning-zuckerberg-i.html=
).=0A =0AThere are very few systems that make your data unreachable to inte=
rnal staff and =0Avery few companies that could not modify their terms of s=
ervice to do whatever =0Athey want with your data. Especially cloud based =
services. To get that level =0Aof security requires an investment beyond t=
he reach and need of most schools. =0AYou bring up Zoho as being different=
from Google but it has all the same issues, =0Athough as a paid service yo=
u have a stronger legal foot to stand on in =0Adisputes. From the Zoho ter=
ms of service:=0A =0A=E2=80=9CWe assure you that the contents of your user =
account will not be disclosed to =0Aanyone and will not be accessible even =
to employees of Zoho except in =0Acircumstances specifically mentioned in t=
his Privacy Policy Statement.=E2=80=9D=0A =0AThat means someone has access =
to all of your data via Zoho (even if you are =0Ausing local storage and th=
eir API). It is likely multiple people, in multiple =0Acountries (Just lik=
e google), and even if you deleted it now it would remain in =0Atheir posse=
ssion, likely for weeks or months.=0A =0AThis is not to diminish Zoho, Goog=
le, or any other cloud service. I think they =0Aoffer much better securit=
y and privacy than most schools can offer internally or =0Aeven with the he=
lp of custom development and consulting, but every system is =0Avulnerable =
and they are most vulnerable to those who administer them.=0A =0A_J=0A ____=
